On June 6, 2018, the Young University Ranking Organization, known as "The Young University Rankings", published the results of the ranking of the best new universities worldwide operating for less than 50 years. In the ranking of 2018 there are 250 Universities from 55 countries and the University of Crete occupies 62th place.
The University of Crete maintains the 30th place among the 50 best Universities that were founded from 1967 to 1985.
The rankings of the New Universities are based on the same performance indicators covering the full range of a University's mission (teaching, research, reporting, know-how and extroversion), but it attributes less weight to the reputation of a University as it is associated with its years of operation , the tradition and the wealth it has acquired along the way.
It is noteworthy that with regard to the index of the "impact of research" on the basis of the number of references, the University of Crete occupies the 25th place among the 250 Universities participating in the ranking.
